Covid19 (Coronavirus) Update

3rd July 2020

We have carefully considered how best to safely move to the 'next step' in church re-opening and will be holding a Service of the Word from Sunday 12th July at 9:15am, with access to church from 8:45am. This will continue until the end of July, when we will review and decide whether we can safely open church further. Online worship will also continue with services at 10:45am and 11am and we would encourage those who are able to access this to continue to do so for the time being.

In church a number of restrictions will still be in place including:

  • A cap of 30 on number of people allowed in our building at any one time.

  • A one way system in and out of church, strict 2m social distancing and signing in to help with contact tracing if needed.

  • All services will be said, with no music and the service will be available to read on the screens only.

  • Those who are 'clinically vulnerable' or who have been advised to shield, should continue to adhere to their doctor's advice.

Alternative ways to worship

There are a number of alternatives to formal church worship including:

  • Some prayers for personal use can be found here.

  • The Church's prayer for the day is available both visually and aurally here.

  • Access to Morning/Evening Prayer can be found here or by downloading the Church of England's Daily Prayer app.

  • Lectio 365: An app which allows you to read and meditate on a piece of scripture daily.

  • The Daily Prayer service from the BBC can be accessed on BBC iPlayer.

  • The Northumbria Community provide Celtic Daily Prayer.

Despite the current turbulent circumstances we continue to share Christ's love with all, particularly through pastoral care and are doing our best to ensure everyone remains connected in someway with the church community. If you need help during these challenging times (collection of shopping, medicines etc.) then please get in touch with a member of the clergy team or one of the Churchwardens. Their contact details can be found on our home page.

The Parish Office

Until further notice the Parish Office will be closed. Should you need to make any enquiries then please either call or email Julia, our administrator, on:

A prayer:

Keep us, good Lord,
under the shadow of your mercy
in this time of uncertainty and distress.
Sustain and support the anxious and fearful,
and lift up all who are brought low;
that we may rejoice in your comfort
knowing that nothing can separate us from your love
in Christ Jesus our Lord.

When this is over,
May we never again take for granted
A handshake with a stranger
Full shelves in the shop
Conversations with neighbours
A crowded theatre
Friday night out
The taste of communion
A routine check up
The school rush each morning
Coffee with a friend
The stadium roaring
Each deep breath
A boring Tuesday
Life itself.

When this ends,
May we find
That we have become
More like the people we wanted to be
We were called to be
We hoped to be
And may we stay that way- better for each other
Because of the worst
